Rômulo Ehalt

Rômulo Ehalt is a post-doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in Frankfurt, where he has been based since 2021. His research interests include Iberian Asia and its religious missions, slavery in Asia, moral theology in Iberian Asia, and early modern Japan and Portugal. Ehalt has previously held the position of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science International Research Fellow at Sophia University in Tokyo (2019-2020) and taught at several universities in Japan, including Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Keio University, and Josai International University (2014-2018). He earned his doctoral degree in Global Studies from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in 2018, where he had been a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Doctoral Fellow (DC-1) from 2011 to 2014. Ehalt also holds a Master’s degree in Area Studies from the same institution and a Bachelor’s degree in History from Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro.
