Pilar Mejía

Pilar Mejía is a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in Frankfurt, Germany, since 2013. She completed her PhD in 2017 at Goethe University Frankfurt, focusing on "Superstition" as a crime in the inquisitorial tribunal of Cartagena de Indias. Mejía has a Master's in the History of the Hispanic World from CSIC in Madrid and a BA in Anthropology and History from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá. Her research interests focuses on the intersections between religious normativities, colonial contexts and cultural translations of norms in the Iberian Worlds. At the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory, she coordinates the Historical Dictionary of Canon Law in Hispanic-America and Philippines (16th-18th centuries).
