Gerd Gleixner is a research group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena, Germany, where he has led the "Organic Matter" group since 2006. He earned his PhD in 1994 at the Technical University of Munich, focusing on isotope effects in enzyme reactions, and completed his Habilitation in Organic Geochemistry at Friedrich Schiller University Jena in 2002. His research explores molecular processes in biogeochemical cycles, soil organic matter, carbon transport in plants, and climate reconstruction. Gleixner is also speaker of the International Max Planck Research School for Global Biogeochemical Cycles and was awarded the Thuringian Research Prize in 2016.
